Background

Wema Community Based Organisation (WCBO) formerly known as Wema Community Center Organisation (WCBO) is a nonprofit established in 2013, registered under the Ministry of East Africa Community, Labour, and Social Protection. Founded by intellectuals to address challenges faced by women and children, WCBO supports overcoming poverty and uplifts the less fortunate and vulnerable in the community by emphasizes the role of technology in driving social change and sustainable development.

WCBO is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for women and youth in underprivileged areas by providing basic education, youth empowerment, skills training for income generating, environmental conversation and raising awareness on gender-based violence (GBV) and other human rights issues to socially and economically empower the community. Wema employs an integrated gender and rights-based approach in its program, connecting to the real lives of girls and women in the community while recognizing them as rights bearers.

WCBO is committed to addressing the urgent challenges posed by climate change. By integrating climate resilience into its programs, WCBO promotes sustainable practices that help communities adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change. This includes advocating for the use of innovative technologies and smart solutions to build resilience against climate-related risks.

By combining education, rights advocacy, and innovative climate solutions, WCBO empowers communities for a sustainable and resilient future.

Although the entire community is the ultimate beneficiary of Wema’s Programs and activities, the major thrust is on the vulnerable and marginalized community (women, children, PLwD and youth). Wema is serving communities in two ways, one directly working with communities at field level and the other way is to build the capacities of the community and stakeholders working for the betterment of vulnerable communities.

 There are Programs which cover in some way or other, the community as a whole; such as the interventions in the fields of protection, environment, livelihood, health, community capacity building and youth development; provided to achieve over all socio-economic transformation and designed to benefit the larger community, though in varying degree and thus to contribute to the well-being of the people and development at large.

Wema’s location of registration is Nairobi in Kenya. In designing and implementing its activities, the Organization’s serves a broad section of ages in urban and rural women, youth and children as well as men from the community. Wema works together with local stakeholders and directly with target communities within its coverage areas in a participatory approach. Wema work in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kwale, Busia, Garissa, and Tala among other areas
